The name & the mark

Two roots.
One happy accident.

Ligo
Ligo — Latin, “to bind”
The act of binding user responses to a database record. Every form submission is an act of Ligo — structured data, captured and held. The white vertical bar in the mark is the binding force: upright, permanent, the axis everything connects to.
Type
Type — from logotype
A nod to logotype — the union of form and identity. Type is also the act of input, the moment a human meets a form field. The gradient horizontal bar is the record being written: flowing, directional, carrying the data outward.
Lin·o
Linotype — the happy accident
The Linotype machine — invented in 1884 — revolutionised printing by casting entire lines of type in hot metal. It was the first technology to truly bind structured input to structured output at scale. Lygotype wasn't named after it, but perhaps it should have been.
